The Maine Problem

This was an unexpected trip that was thought of on my way home from work after being given my first full 2 day weekend off. Prior to this trip I had been to Maine once before and just like usual my lucky was no different than any other day.

We looked online at places to see and the main attractions in Maine (no pun intended) we had always seen pictures of Acadia national park but never got the chance to visit it yet, so we decided to take a two day trip up! We packed our bags Friday night and decided to leave at 4 am the next morning, little did i know... my keys were locked in my car. We found this out when we went to leave in the morning, luckily I have AAA but the wait time was 2 hours and we couldn't waste that much time.

My mom was nice enough to offer us her car which i hesitated to take because I get nervous with other peoples vehicles. Anyway we started our way on the 7 hour drive which went by very fast, once we got further up north the trees started turning into evergreens and it got cooler by the mile. The main highway ended and turned into a 1 hour scenic drive with beautiful views and back roads in order to get to Bar Harbor. Once we passed the first bridge, we stopped at the visitor center to buy a week pass for unlimited access  for 25$, there were several cheep hotels and motels in the area since it is such a big attraction for people of all ages.

Once we reached the main entrance we took the auto road around the park, it turns into a one way road which is about 10 miles if i had to guess, but along the road are some of the best views we have ever seen There were so many beautiful views, there were many places to stop and see the ocean and go off onto several trails going up the mountain. We made our way around to the most breathtaking lagoon that was at the base of a mountain the pictures were stunning, after that we continued to Jordan pond house for more pictures and ended with Cadillac mountain.

On our way out we decided to get some world famous Maine lobster at a local restaurant called the log cabin. There was a very interesting gift store for all of your bar harbor souvenir needs next to the restaurant. The food was very good but a little bit expensive for the amount we received, we then left to our motel down the road which was very disappointing.

The sea breeze motel had a mistake with our reservation and cancelled it because no more rooms were available. They luckily had a very cheep room that someone had cancelled on so that was our only option. Once we got to the room we realized why it was so cheep, the wallpaper was coming off the walls the beds Springs were shot, and there were cobwebs all over.

Cadillac mountain is supposed to be the first place to sun touches the United States in the morning, many people visit it for that reason, we wanted to get up and watch it but it didn't happen. In the morning we left to take one last drive up to the top. There was a another nice gift shop at the top with water snacks and more souvenirs. On our journey around the top we witnessed a wedding which was very romantic to say the least fog was rolling in which took over the view of the ocean like a page turning on a book then it was gone again.

There was a school bus that someone bought, hollowed out and turned into an adventure van! After that since we had some time to kill we went into the village of bar harbor to get breakfast. The town was packed full of people and we luckily found a parking spot. We stopped and waited in line for a breakfast that was well worth it. It was finally time to leave after that, we made our way out, bought some lobsters to take home for my mom and made our way back to the highway.

A few miles from the on ramp the car was making funny noises and completely died, I lost control of the steering but luckily we pulled off safely. Right away I knew something was wrong with the engine, as soon as I popped the hood and pulled out the oil dipstick  I could see it smoking. (Prior to the trip my mom got her oil changed 2 days before and the dealership never put enough oil back in) once I saw that I realized that the engine overheated and it blew up,

I crawled under and found pieces of aluminum and a hole. I called Triple A once again to come to the rescue, we waited 2 hours for someone to come, sat in the truck for 2 hours being towed to the dealership closest to home and then another 5 hours home after we found a rental car place. After "leaving early" to get home we ended up leaving at 10am and arriving at 1130 at night. We arrived safely and with the lobsters to give to my mom as a sorry gift. In the end the car repairs cost 6000$ and we are still fighting to get our money back
